Game Review 1 (written by Robbiewarden03) Added on: 09/01/2006
Mortal Kombat provides gamers with a sensational gaming experience. The First time I ever played the game it was over at a friend's house when I was in elementary school. I quickly fell in love with the game-play and the quest to take down all the characters in the game.
The first element of the game-play of Mortal Kombat that I truly enjoy is the head to head battles you can have with your friends. Looking through the manual or the online cheat codes and learning how to enter each characters special move was highly entertaining.

The first element of the game-play of Mortal Kombat that I truly enjoy is the head to head battles you can have with your friends. Looking through the manual or the online cheat codes and learning how to enter each characters special move was highly entertaining. You could go at it for hours upon hours and never reach a state of boredom. I also like how you have to lose twice or win twice before advancing

or being eliminated. That leaves chance out of it and often times when playing friends and improving upon your skill level the game would venture into the anticipatory third match. I enjoyed many a good time going head to head against friends.
The other part of game-play is the quest to beat every character in the game. When nobody else is around, you're bored and you have some free time, it's a great way to mellow out and have a good time. Beating up on people is always fun and having a goal set out for you and trying to attain to it is great fun.
The downfall on game-play is that once you beat the game the first time there really is not a whole lot left to make a fuss about. Getting to the top and winning it all feels good, but as you improve on the game and get good it gets easier and eventually it isn't even all that challenging to run the table and beat everyone. My advice would be to play until you get bored, put it up on a shelf and then wait a couple years and uncover the magic again. This is one of those games that you can always come back to for a fun times and lots of memories.
The graphics of Mortal Kombat really aren't all that great, but that is relative really. When the game first came out it was unbelievable and top notch, now when you compare it to the play station 3 and the Xbox 360 of course it is going to fall short. However, Mortal Kombat is a classic game and it's also tons of fun, so if you have an opportunity to play or download a game, why not kick back with a classic hand to hand combat game in Mortal Kombat?

Game Review 2 (written by Roughjob) Added on: 08/29/2006
Personally, I'm on a bit of a nostalgia trip, so anything I play will bring back old memories and probably bias what I say. However, Mortal combat still is one of the best fighting games around. Although the graphics seem a bit dated, a good litmus test for a game is will the game-play stand the test of time. I think in Mortal combats case the answer is yes.The game has all the classic characters and the graphics are very good. The sounds and music is nothing amazing, but then I'm comparing it to the standard of modern day games.
The other great thing about mortal combat is that it can be a complete no brainier of a game. You can set the difficulty level on normal and battle out your frustrations by tapping every single button you can lay your finger on. On the other hand, you can also set the difficulty to a much harder level and take time to get into the game and master finer points such as finishing moves and special abilities.
On the downside, I have never been a fighting game fanatic. Sure they are fun at first, but once you have completed the game for the 10th time it gets very repetitive. The area where mortal combat comes into its own is when you have a group of friends round and have a tournament. Everyone gets behind each other and really engross them self into a top notch competition. Be warned though, after you have finished playing you are likely to feel the martial artist in you come out and start a play fight with the gang. If you just destroyed your brother or best mate in a humiliating fashion, the resultant fight may lead to a few black eyes.
The graphics are another area where it is difficult to compare. At the time Mortal combat was nothing short of breath taking and you rip someone’s head off and have their spine dangling down or freeze someone with a blast and then throw them across the room. Compared to the modern day standards, these are nothing special as the 2d graphics have been surpassed by taken and such like.
To summarize though, Mortal combat I feel, is a top game to have a laugh with for a few months, but will not last the test of time until like me you revisit it for nostalgias sake.
