Genre:  Arcade    |     Year: 1989    |     Publisher: Technos Japan     |     Developer: Technos Japan Corp.
Game Review 1 (written by Lindsay2) Added on: 11/25/2007
River City Ransom-Street Gangs by Techno Japan came out in 1989. It is a classic beat up the bad guys to save your girlfriend type game. You can choose one of two characters to play as, either Alex or Ryan. You can also choose which difficulty level that you would like to start off with at the beginning of the game when you choose your character. In this game you are just a typical high school student who has to go through the town fighting different street gangs like, the squids, frat boys, home boys and the jocks.

Each section of the town is divided up into each gang’s territories that you have to go through and defend yourself against these gang members in

order to reach your girlfriend. There are items that can be found that will help you in conquering these gangs like trash cans, chains, metal pipes, and sticks. When you beat up each gang member, they will drop anywhere between 10 cents to five dollars that you can pick up to buy different things that you will need. After you beat up all the gang members, you will have to find their leaders and beat them up as well. The money will help you buy things like food for your life points as you will inevitably lose them along the way. Some food items you will be able to carry while others you can only eat right then and there. You can also read books to help you learn things that will improve your stats like a karate book that helps you learn ways to fight these bad guys. There are also books that you can find at the library that will help improve your abilities like your kick and punch speeds, and acrobatics. Some of the books will also improve skills.
This game was one of the first in its class to start using stats like attack, defense, ability, speed, energy, and others. Your girlfriend is held hostage on the roof of the high school by gang members and you will have to go in there and work your way up and rescue her. The graphics were good for its time. Overall, I liked this game for its fun, addict and exciting! I highly recommend downloading it! I’m sure you’ll be satisfied and impressed!

Game Review 2 (written by Jaybeat2k7) Added on: 11/22/2007
This game is pretty much the exact same control system as Double Dragon. It’s easy to pick up; one button for punch, one button for kicks both buttons for jump. Add the ability to learn different moves, combination attacks, and upgrade them as you wish.
The storyline was very good! It based around your "girl" being kidnapped by a big boss, who, quite surprisingly, isn't 10 ft tall, built like a small bus, doesn't have a low, evil grainy laugh before the fight or if he kills you, because chances are, by the time you get to the boss, you'd have had so much fun playing the areas through again and again trying to level up your characters abilities, that he will be absolutely no challenge what so ever.
The two player option on this makes the game considerably easier, as there is no increase in enemy difficulty unless you select hard mode from the title screen, and there are no extra enemies to beat up on.
This game is really challenging and exciting! I highly recommend downloading this fantastic game! I’m sure you’ll be satisfied and impressed!
