A classic street fighter clone game.
The graphics, at the time, were pretty awesome. Very fluid animations, and some interesting characters in the background too. The style of artwork is also well done and adds a unique feel to the game. It's like bringing a comic book to life with its stylized renditions of the fighters and the backgrounds.
The engine is well written and didn't give many of those "He didn't even hit me with that kick!!!" outbursts that come with other games.
The speed of the game moves quickly but not too quickly and is well done. It runs smoothly and I didn't encounter any glitches whatsoever with it, not to say that anybody will.
The variety of characters and special moves is also very well done. Probably the best aspect of this game is the variations on special attacks. No more 5 characters with a fireball, at least they tried to mix it up! Also every character's style of attack was well-matched to their special moves. The balance involved in creating different styles and maintaining a fair fight between any pair of fighters was well done as well.
Street Fighter and all its variations available at the time were my only other exposure to this time of
side-view one-on-one battle type game. Naturally, I tried all of the classic street fighter combos to try to get the characters to do some special moves...this met with limited success and I got pretty frustrated at the game. After a bit more experimenting, I discovered that the special attacks are pretty much unique to Sango fighter so find those codes before you play!!! It makes the game so much more fun if you have some idea of what to do!
One problem with this game is that there are a few moves which if you get repetitious with pretty much guarantee a win. The biggest problem I had here was that I was pretty young when I first played this game (mid to early teens) and as soon as you find an exploit in a game, it's game over. Rinse lather repeat and you win!
Overall this game is very well done and worth a play for anybody who enjoys the street fighter type game. Single player can get a bit boring as the CPU is not the greatest opponent, but, it does offer some challenges along the way.
In summary, Sango Fighter rocks!
