Game Review (written by Rudeboykev) Added on: 06/09/2008
I first discovered pinball games by playing a handheld Tiger game (remember those AA battery operated gems? the monochrome LCD screens? the high-pitched beeps and sound effects coming from that tiny quarter sized speaker on the back of the game?). At age 8, I got the Pinball video game for my old 8-bit NES system, and would spend all afternoon playing Pinball after school before mom called me to the kitchen for dinner. When I was 11, I got a brand-spanking new Sega Genesis system for Christmas that came with a free copy of Sonic Spinball, the pinball game that featured characters from "Sonic The Hedgehog".
Ever since then, I've been hooked on pinball games.
Yes, you can definitely say that I am a big fan of pinball, especially pinball games made for the PC. I downloaded this game a couple of months ago and was instantly addicted.
"Silverball Plus 2" touts itself as the 'future of pinball', and rightfully so. You get to choose from several tables, each with a particular theme. The graphics are very cool, and the sound effects are the icing on the cake.
You can experiment with each table, adjust the difficulty levels and the amount of balls you can play. Instead of the standard three balls, you can adjust it all the way to five balls. You'll spend hours and hours on end trying to beat all of the preset high scores on each table.
It is a very cool pinball game for the PC. Although released way back in 1994, the graphics are somewhat sub par when compared to today's standards, but the sound effects, especially the flippers flipping, the plunger springing back to launch the ball in play, and the various sound effects you hear when hitting bumpers or targets, are nearly 100% realistic. Playing "Silverball Plus 2" on your PC makes you feel like you're in an actual arcade playing one of their pinball tables.
As a matter of fact, the game runs so smoothly, you may not need DOSBox for this. Since this game was specifically designed to take full advantage of computers with Pentium CPUs, I really don't see why you'll need to launch this game with DOSBox.
If you love pinball as much as I do, or are just simply bored to death and don't know what to do to kill all of the free time you have, then download "Silverball Plus 2" right now and then strap yourself in very tight for the ultimate pinball thrill ride! Have fun and enjoy!
