In today's world the game Snake has been converted into cellphone, calculator and MP3 player games, but none really gives justice to the old DOS version of the game that I used to enjoy as a kid. Back before all of the modern video games with high resolution graphics, games like this were the only form of entertainment.
The objective of the game, for those who don't know, is simply going around the screen, dodging objects (lines pretty much) and your own tail, and collecting numbers to get to the next level.
The numbers required to proceed increase by one each level. Also the length of the snake (the line you are controlling) increases with each number you collect, making the game more difficult. The better you get at the game, the easier you will find it for your snake to tangle up in the game play.
An advantage to this game is that it's a decent form of entertainment for anyone who is boring and looking for some simple entertainment. It is not at all graphic (obviously) so it would be appropriate for all ages. I remember finding it very entertaining as a child, so I would suggest it to a parent looking to keep their kids occupied (instead of spending on a brand name
system that would probably entertain them just as much).
I am not however saying that this game is just for children. It would also be a nice thing to have for someone who is at work and needs something to do with their spare time, and is easy enough to hide away when the boss is around (unlike more complicated games).
Snake is just one of those games that no matter how much gaming advances will always find its platform to stay in the gaming circuit. It is a classic, which is why I would advise you to check out the original DOS version of the game to see where it all began.
The game puts you as a snake with one objective at hand. Eat more numbers. It could almost be considered a similar game to Pac Man, because it has a similar objective. Of course there are no ghosts or anything to chase you (however, some were added in later versions of the game), but the game is still very entertaining for anyone who enjoys a classic or is just out seeking for something to do with their time. Happy snaking, everyone.
