Krisalis Software Limited both developed and released the platform game entitled Soccer Kid. It is geared more for a younger audience, but can be well-enjoyed by gamers of any age. It is a side scrolling action game that was released in the middle nineties.
The game is not a soccer simulation or a sports management game, like one may glean from the title. Instead, it follows a cute little story line about a group of aliens, led by Scab, who have scouted the Earth and stolen the World Cup soccer trophy.

The game is not a soccer simulation or a sports management game, like one may glean from the title. Instead, it follows a cute little story line about a group of aliens, led by Scab, who have scouted the Earth and stolen the World Cup soccer trophy. While beaming the trophy aboard their waiting ship, the trophy collides with an asteroid, and the World Cup is shattered into five different pieces, scattering about the globe. The Soccer Kid sees all of this
from live news coverage and vows to recover these parts and restore the World Cup. His journeys will take him through Britain, Japan, Russia, Italy, and the United States of America. Each of these great locations features three stages and six levels, making the game a long play.
The soccer theme is further carried out by the Soccer Kid’s weapons, moves and appearance. The Soccer Kid comes to the frays dressed in his best soccer kit and features a ball as a weapon. He can perform headers, bicycle kicks, runs, shoots, and many other soccer style moves. There are many different enemies in each of the levels, and the only way to vanquish Soccer Kid’s foes is to hit them with the soccer ball in one of the previously listed moves. The Kid will blow out balls, and is only allotted so many for each level. Aside from the many different baddies to be faced, the levels have boss characters at the end of each world, and many cool mini-bosses in between, all of which add depth and variety to the game play.
Soccer Kid offers great, colourful graphics and a very smooth scroller, especially for a conversion game. The cartoons are engaging and vivid. The only real drawback to the game comes in the form of its save features. The user is only offered the opportunity to save his or her game after completing the quest in one of the five countries. The lands are very big, and it takes a long time to repeat the play if you die at the boss near the end of a world. As a whole, however, Soccer Kid is a very good platform game with a very unique theme. It is a great soccer game without all the pressures and stress of micromanagement; featuring pure offensive soccer moves instead. It is a fun little game and is highly recommended for download.
