I can't believe I have found this game! I played it during my childhood and had a great time with it. I have lots of memories of this game! In short, what it is is a sequel to the original Starfox game. The "bad guy", Andorf, somhow survived his near annhialation due to the core brain being destroyed and, knowing that he was weak, kept to himself, slowly gaining strength and recreating his army as well as a super fortified fortress. You (the official starfox team) now have the mission of destroying Andorf once again (this is to be the last time).
This will end the wars in the Lylat System and make your galaxy a much more peaceful place.
In the version that I have previously played, there are three betas. I'm not really sure how many are included in this game but I'll briefly mention all three just in case.
The first beta is quite stunning for its time. It displayed great developments from its predecessor, star fox 1 with new and improved menus, levels, and more selection/decision-making in the game. One of the major selections is which type of aircraft you would like to use. You have the choice of the Arwing, a lighter fighter plane and then a heavier bombing plane. As you can guess, the lightest is the fastest but
the hardest to control, while the heaviest is the slowest and the easiest to control. The Arwing is in the middle and thus a popular choice. You can complete training missions before playing the main game to brush up on your flying skills. There is a multiplayer setting as well, which is fun to play with friends.
The second beta changed the single player game play quite a bit. The major difference I noticed was being able to have a multidimensional level choice instead of being restricted by a linear one. It allowed gameplay to be more free and exciting. There is also more of a strategic angle, from which you can actually direct your troops in chosen actions in your mission to destroy Andorf.
The third beta, which I'm assuming this game is, since it was the first one that was actually imported into America and in English, was the best of the three (clearly). Cut animation scenes are added into the game which filled in the gaps that seemed to appear in the previous version. I'm really a fan of the cut scenes, they add so much more dimension and enjoyment to the game.
All in all, it's really an excellent game and will keep you occupied for hours. It's really neat to see the prequels to the Nintendo 64 version of Star Fox. I highly recommend this game, you won't be disappointed!
