The first time I played this game was back in my childhood at my aunt's house. I remember I was new to gaming and I sat around and played it for hours... It was a terrific time and now that I can play it again it brings back a lot of good memories and good times.
It's similar in feel and style to any other Star Trek games. There are elements of problem solving and of course the honor involved in being a star fleet officer.
The gameplay isn't ground breaking but is very standard. The graphics match what was typical for the time it was created. Other than that it's a quality game that immerses you into the star trek galaxy and feel. It's very good about being true to the story line of the original show and Gene Roddenberry's design of the galaxy.
This game sets itself apart from the typical Star Trek game because it puts you in the perspective of the Klingons. They are the very warlike race that fights and lives their lives based on honor. Living in their world will place you into a setting that is very alien but enjoyable at the same time.
This game is an FPS or first person shooter
meaning you will be spending most of your time enjoying the action rather than puzzles or strategy but that does not mean that the game will be lacking in either of those departments.
The game starts a little slow as you are taught what the game is about and what your goals are. You start at the lowest rank. From the freshmen level you are expected to climb the ranks of the Klingon honor guard. Without giving up much of the plot, the general idea is that there have been attempts of assassination and it's your job to investigate and deal punishment to those who are to blame. The Klingon world is full of violence so an FPS is the perfect style of gameplay. Before you know it you'll be going into joints and blowing away anything that stands in your way of defending the empire. You will eventually become more trusted and gain more knowledge and become responsible for dishing out vengeance for the crimes committed.
The game was developed by microprose in 1998 and utilizes the Unreal engine. For its time the graphics are great. The needed specs are low so any modern day computer can run this game.
Good luck foiling the plot to assassinate Chancellor Gowron!
