Street Fighter 2

PC
Genre:  Arcade    |     Year: 1992    |     Publisher: US Gold     |     Developer: Capcom
Game Review 1 (written by Thebaddestman) Added on: 10/23/2006
Street fighter 2 is one of those games that captured the imagination of a whole generation. Ask any one between the age of about 23 and 35 what was your favourite game as a kid and they will probably name street fighter two as the game they were most into.
This is a straight from arcade to computer copy of the game with almost nothing lost from the arcade. A follow up to the original street fighter game which featured just Ken and Ryu, street fighter 2 was more a brand new original concept than a follow up game.

A follow up to the original street fighter game which featured just Ken and Ryu, street fighter 2 was more a brand new original concept than a follow up game. The graphics while cartoonish compared to later games such as mortal combat and others of the same genre were very good for the time and perfect for the style

of gameplay. All the favourite characters are here like dahlsim, ken, guile, ryu, chun li and the rest of the gang.
Game control were simple but effective you had your strong middle and fast punch attack buttons and also strong middle and fast kick attack buttons although on most console formats you had to press a button like select to change from punches to kicks as the pads of the day didn’t have the 6 attack buttons the arcade had. These punches and kick attacks could be linked together to unleash devastating combos on your opponents.
Then of course each character had their own magic, or special moves. Also there was no finishing moves in this game no fatalities as such, like in the mortal combat games, these special moves could be so devastating that 1 or 2 landed cleanly could win you the match. With a perfect to block you just had to pull back on the joystick/pad and pick the right time to counter. This was the definitive beat them up game of its time. Packed with little extras like the level where you have to smash up a car with only your hands and feet. This all made it highly addictive and totally unforgettable even almost 20 yrs on from the release this game is still fresh and addictive probably more so than any of the follow ups that came after in the street fighter series.

Game Review 2 (written by Lowgman) Added on: 10/17/2006
The one of many 2D fight game kings still rocks. Made in early 90's, Street Fighter II blazed arcades with its amazing speed and great graphics. Many tried to duplicate, but few can emulate how great this timeless classic is.
You are a "World Warrior", who tries to dominate your opponents with a skilled combination of power and speed. There are 8 to choose from. The favorites still after many years are still Ryu and Ken, both have their own rate great balance of strength and skill. William Guile is better suited for intermediate fighters or those who are more advanced in playing the game. Beginners would probably see more skill and grace for achieving a victory. Enter the Chinese beauty, Chun-Li; with her great balance of speed for great ground coverage and mobility, as well as agility for quick strikes against her enemies. Want power instead? Zangief is a tough guy, with great and punishing moves. Great for use if you’re an advanced player or just want a challenge in using your character.
And you can't forget about those nasty end Bosses...The fierce 4...the elites of the tournament: The Grand Champions. These 4 still pack quite a wallop after many years of this game's existence. Balrog, a ruthless boxing champion can corner you with his might punching blows. The arrogant and self proclaimed "beautiful" Vega, his steel claws will slash any incomers who dare challenge his mastery of the steel claw blade. Last year's champion, Sagat will stun his apposition with his fierce "Tiger Shot" and "Tiger Uppercut". His "Tiger Knee" can catch opponents off guard in the air if not carefully timed with your movements to evade. And last but not least, the big man him self......M. Bison.
Still after many years I find myself trying desperately to defeat the Grand Master of Street Fighter II. His "Psycho Crusher" still paralyzes his foes as well as messes up a user’s offence with a combination of Power and, dare I say, "Cheap", yet useful offensive movements. His "Psycho Stomp" can also inflict massive and unexpected damage. So in conclusion, SFII still rocks the scene with its combination of skill as well as great and memorable cast of characters. So if you still have that itch to become champion, Street Fighter II still delivers.

Streetfighter is great. Ryu vs. Ken is great. The green giant guy is awesome. Best part is the spin kick.
