Strife is one of the most beloved classic shoot ‘em-up games of its time. With Strife being one of the first FPS style games created, its two-dimensional graphics leave much to be desired by today's standards. Despite this however, the storyline and gameplay are still decent for gamers with a few hours of free time on their hands.

The game is about the hero or heroine, as it goes on a quest to piece together the ultimate weapon of the game, the sigil. You start the game off with nothing more than a dagger and a few first aid kits, when you are teamed up - through the right connections of course, with the mysterious "Blackbird". This "Blackbird" character leads you to the
town hall, where you are introduced to a band known as the "rebels" headed by their leader Macil as they fight against a brutal army of Acolytes and various robots lead by one of the head villains of the game known only as "The Programmer". You are then sent on various missions, such as rescuing imprisoned "rebel" forces from the prison, shutting down the castle's power grid, and destroying the gate controls to finally reach the Programmer's castle, where you face the epic battle of destiny.
This game has a vast array of weapons, such as the knife, the crossbow (with poison and electric darts), a rifle, a machine gun, a grenade launcher, a flamethrower, and (later in the game) a plasma shooter and the fully constructed sigil, and fits into the playing style of almost any gamer.
You also meet some unique and intriguing characters along the way that will help you (or mislead you) on your journey. Some of which include Macil, Blackbird, Harris (a local conman that set up shop inside the bar), the warden and the judge (which you eventually kill in the prison), and perhaps the most interesting character of all, a man known as the "Sewer King", who leads a small town of villagers in the sewers that managed to escape the Acolyte's cruel destruction.
I have been playing this game off and on during its conception, and I still enjoy it. It is well worth playing, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in playing old school FPS games, and to those people who enjoyed titles such as "Doom" and "Wolfenstein 3-D".
