Very much like regular Pac-Man, but with a few twists. Anyone who would like the original would most definitely appreciate this version. This game offers a few new additions making the dynamics of the game a bit more adventurous than the older versions, such as Ms. Pac-Man. After eating a green food source Pac-Man grows and can become invisible, but while he is in his enormous he can also eat his way through locked doors that contain fruit and other prizes. An unwavering part of this game is its monsters; the ghosts still chase in relatively the same fashion and can be eaten when you eat the special fruit allowing for you to, in turn, chase them.
The new locked door system is what actually threw me off. It makes the game far different from the other older Pac-man games. As you progress in levels the keys in which you use to chew your way through the doors get farther and farther away from their respective door and as you continue further down the road you find that inside the locked chambers are portals that lead to other keys with their respective door within another portal in that same chamber. Thus, planning becomes far more critical as you do not want a ghost to follow you into these chambers while you are doubling back and forth.
In the beginning levels you get giant sprints of fruit and don’t need to
worry about the timing of getting the ghost pellets, but while you progress you find that a strategy is necessary to complete the level and finding out when to use your ghost killing tool become essential. Every so many levels there is a bonus level where you are the giant form of Pac-Man and must eat all the fruit within a given time limit. This too takes practice to master.
There are some extra items within the game, such as freezing pellets which freeze everything, besides you, on the level for a given amount of time. Another unique item is the mirror image item which creates a replica of you and floats around the level confusing the ghosts into chasing it.
All in all it was a good game, but I feel only so much can be done to add to this classic arcade game before it is ruined by losing its simplicity. I would give this game an 8.5 out of 10 in respect to its original counterpart.
