Super Sango Fighter is a fan-made crossbred game that sees the characters from Sango Fighter matching up with those from Super Fighter. It was created by Death Adder, who also put together the musical score for this interesting hybrid game. He took graphics and character sprites from both games, as well as backgrounds, sound effects, and music and blended them neatly into a single gaming experience. It was created only for play on the personal computer and was offered to the public in the later nineties.
Overall, this is a two dimensional versus style fighting game. It has a similar look and feel to it as games such as Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter. Obviously, it bears close resemblances to the games on which it was based: Panda Entertainment’s Sango Fighter and Super Fighter. It features many of the gamer’s favorite characters, all of which are based loosely on figures in Chinese history around the time that the Three Kingdoms were in power near the close of the Han Dynasty.
Like so many games in this genre, the user is able to master a variety of combination moves that are based on the basic moves of a martial artist. The chosen
character can kick, punch and duck and move back and forth across the screen in a fluid motion or in a series of leaps. The strength of the blow is inversely connected to its speed. By putting together a frantic display of button mashing, the user is able to string together some fairly cool and interesting combination moves, some unique to the specific character. Despite the number of options, it is not an overly complicated game to learn, and most of the combinations will seem natural to the gamer within a short period of time.
While that is somewhat the norm in versus or head-to-head style fighting games, the feature that makes Super Sango Fighter unique is its perfect blending of two different games to make one surprisingly fluid and well-put together project. The story mode that is so prevalent in Sango Fighter is not lost, and neither are the flashy moves or colorful characters of Super Fighter. The game controls are simplistic and easily learned, making it much less frustrating than some of its counterparts, which require the player to do everything except perform a cartwheel to kick his opponent. Overall, this is an exciting and fast paced game that fans of this genre…especially its inspirations…will truly enjoy.
