At the time of production, the graphics for this game were decent. The objects aren’t particularly sharp, but the vibrant colors are awesome. Whatever the game lacks in, it makes up in game play. In single player mode, there are various modes to play in. There is of course the main mission story line. You get to control not only the tanks like in the demo version I played oh so long ago, but you can also control the helicopters and airplanes. The missions are fun and always different, which creates for a never-ending fun and challenging playing.
The single player missions are really fun and engaging, but the multiplayer games are by far, in my opinion at least, the best aspect of the game.
In multiplayer mode, other than co-op, you can play with a friend and engage in capture the flag, racing, or the ever competitive DEATHMATCH. There is really nothing better than destroying a friend’s tank to establish that strong friendship bond. My personal favorite of all the multiplayer games is the racing part. Now in racing games, the point is of course to be the first person to reach the finish line. In games such as gran turismo and need for speed, there is the one and only goal: get to the finish line. However, in Tank
Arena racing, the important thing is HOW you reach the finish line. And that way is by destroying your opponents. Not that gran turismo, the best racing game EVER, isn’t fun, it is just refreshing to have a game where you can shoot your friend’s tank or plane while propelling your vehicle toward the finish line. The sound and sight of their vehicle exploding is almost of not just as satisfying as winning the race.
I don’t think this game ever became that popular, but it’s definitely worth a try, especially if you like games in which you shoot at things. And the guy who pops up in the corner is always funny because of the face he makes. This game was definitely a good download choice for me because of all the memories it brought back from the free demo I played so many years ago. And the extra play options were a nice surprise.
