Game Review (written by Shannon) Added on: 01/14/2008
Tapper, sometimes called Root beer Tapper, is a seemingly ancient game that was initially released as a coin operated arcade title by Bally Midway in the early eighties. It was adapted to many formats, including the PC, which is a faithful conversion, but does not feature as good of play as the console or arcade. Still, it is an entertaining adaptation of a fun, good classic.
In Tapper, the user plays the part of a bartender who is under a lot of pressure to serve a lot of beer to sometimes hostile customers.
As the people consume their beverages, the user also has to collect the empty mugs for refilling, and gather the tips that the clients hopefully leave behind for stellar service. At one time on the screen, there will be four long bars that a single bartender has to work. The patrons place their orders at the far end of the bar away from the bartender/gamer and begin moving toward the bartender’s side of the screen, working their way up the bar. The bartender must draw the beer from the tap and into the mug, and serve the thirsty patron before he is able to touch the bartender. The player will also lose a life if he makes a mess. When customers

empty their mugs, they will order another beer by sliding them back to the barkeep. If the barkeep misses the sliding mug and it falls to the floor, the result is a mess. Bar owners and patrons do not like messes.
Of course this concept seems simple, but as the play progresses, it seems as if all four bars are lighting up at one time, and the customers become thirstier and thirstier, ordering more and more beer. The user is unable to escape the level unless all the customers are satisfied and pushed from the bar. There is also the concept of tips, which will then be used to bring out distracting entertainment for the clients. This is a great strategy the user can take advantage of when things get really hectic behind the bar.
The game of Tapper is very addictive in concept and challenging to play. Most users will find it a complete waste of time, but an enjoyable one, similar to a mindless shoot ‘em up or platform game.

Good graphics, great gameplay- what else does a game need? Serve beer to customers and also collect the mugs back. a bartender's job has never been better illustrated. I remember spending hours in vain on this game trying to beat my brother's score :)
