The Ancient Art of War in The Skies

PC
Genre:  Arcade    |     Year: 1992    |     Publisher: MicroProse Software, Inc.     |     Developer: Evryware
Game Review (written by Eric) Added on: 03/20/2008
The Ancient Art of War in the Skies is a little known aircraft simulation game that is based on the World War I. The game was released in 1993 by MicroProse. The game is the last installment to the game series—The Ancient Art of War. The game is both a side-scrolling game and a overhead combat game. You can use a 3-D map to bomb enemy territories for the overhead combat style or you can get into dogfights in a side-scrolling format.

The AI might not be the best out there, making some of the opponents easy to beat but the game is packed with action so it still remains a very engaging game. You can choose to play the game between the following modes: Map, Dog fight, and Bombing. The game has so many varied scenarios that it is impossible to get bored with it. You will be facing numerous enemies which include the following: General Foch, Kaiser Wilhelm II, Sun Tzu, Albert Ball, Oswald Boelcke, George Guynemer, Baron Manfred von Richtofen, Rene Fonck, and Mick Mannock.
You need to plan your missions so that you can do well in the game. When you plan your missions you get a better grip of the

scenario and are able to choose the right path to help you win the war. The game contains enough levels and offers some pretty varied game play but if you are still unsatisfied with the built-in levels, the game also features a game editor which will help you create your own levels.
The graphics and the music of the game are mediocre so the game really just rides on its game play. There are other more fun aircraft simulation games out there but I wouldn’t really consider this the worst since there are other flight simulation games that are not fun at all. This is actually pretty fun and engaging.
When the game was first released, it disappointed fans of the game series. It featured numerous bugs and did not meet the expectations of gamers. The game may not be perfect but it still offers many hours of gaming fun. The game has some arcade elements in it and is a pretty interesting aircraft simulation game.
I think you can download it now and give it a try. You never know if you might find a game enjoyable even if all the reviews don’t give it too many high scores.

The Ancient Art of War Skies is an old simulation game. If you like strategic arcade games, this would be the game for you, I think.

I found this game interesting and better than most of it genre, while having greater scope than the usual games of this type. It was entertaining while giving me the option to take it easy instead of requiring a constant grind that is awful for a game to have.

I really liked this game. After a few moments of confusion it all clicked, and I was hooked. It sucks you in and you just want to keep on playing and playing. Oh if only I didn't have to go to work.

Game aimed at those with a nostalgia for those early days of flying and dogfighting in cloud filled skies, worth a go even if you dont like this type of game!

Fun game to play! It's a classic from the old days. It is a simple game but one that will have you playing a long time before you realised how long you've been playing. A real blast from the past with suprisingly good graphics.

It was elegant in the ancient world, and epic in the real one. This epitomized the art of creative game making in the 90's, and well into the 21st century. Addictive to say the least.
