This version of Goonies is the arcade version, not what most old-school 8-bit Nintendo system players may recall as Goonies 2. However, it has all the bells and whistles that makes any Goonies game great.
Similar to it's sequel, Goonies is a platforming adventure where you dodge various nuisances to rescue your friends from the Fratellis. It's that simple, in premise. However, this is true platforming goodness. The music is classic Goonies and keeps tempo with your adventures through the tretcherous caverns.
Various items are yours for the taking and make traversing the games many levels easier.
These include bombs and slingshots, diamonds and potions to revive health, and also diving suits, glasses, helmet, bullet proof vest, Pancho, candles, walkie talkie, sledge hammers, even running shoes. Plenty of secret rooms that you have to unveil to find more tems and missions. However, as most (good) platformers, the challenges become greater as does the enemy difficulty and presence. So, it's a balanced game to play.
You can never go wrong with a Goonie game, as the movie was a classic treasure-hunter flick with an unforgettable cast and an amazing score to boot. In case your one of the two people who don't know Goonies, I'll furnish a brief summary of the film. The Goonies is a 1985 American adventure-comedy film directed by Richard Donner.
The screenplay was written by Chris Columbus from a story by executive producer Steven Spielberg. A band of kids from the "Goon Docks" neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon, hoping to save their homes from demolition, go on an adventure to find the buried treasure of One-Eyed Willy, a legendary 17th-century pirate.
I love this version of Goonies because it's straight platforming in arcade form. With the exception of better-known games of the same genre, Goonies 2 was great because it was a Goonies game, not because it was a functional platformer (think Castlevania 2).
In essence, I highly recommend you download this game, as it's what Goonies should've been from the start. You know the saying, "If it isn't broken, then don't try to fix it." It's classic platforming goodness that you really can't afford to miss. Thanks for stopping by!
