Game Review (written by Vr_driver) Added on: 10/03/2006
This is a great game! Turbo Outrun is a game in the long list of 'Outruns that have been around since the turn of the first floppy disk. It used to play this game a lot using a joystick and my trusty 286. I often used to get right through to the end of the game and thought I was pretty cool, because the guy I got the game from was pretty bad and couldn’t get nearly as far as I could.
But playing the game was pretty cool.

But playing the game was pretty cool. You start off slow and then on the straights, used your boost and shoot past everyone - coming to the finish line first. But - if you ended up coming second...

well, the girl in the car - we used to call her use. As she just used you and changed car to whoever was winning. But driving the game was good. Lots of fastness...
The graphics on the game are fairly decent for it's time - back in 1991 that is. So blocky 256 VGA games were all in! These days we know how old a game is by the graphics, and even the music. The sound wasn't very good - even if you had an adlib card like we did.
How do you make real car noises using only 127 instruments that sound like they are from bad chariots of fire rendition from the 80's? It's a bit hard.
In my conclusion to this game, I leave you with the newer versions, which look really great. Xbox have released a version called Outrun 2 - how original. But it's something that need for speed fans will have a challenge competing with. It's probably not a drive anywhere terrain, like smugglers run is (on PS2), but the longer driving games like this are just great. - Much better than just driving in circles on roads.
A track that just keeps going is great. Like the original NFS. Those tracks were really long, even though you could finish them in about 3:30mins, they were still great, as I said earlier; you didn’t just go round and round.
So in conclusion, Outrun is cool. So enjoy it!
