Turok: Dinosaur Hunter is an excellent first-person shooter that has great graphics and gameplay. The story goes something like this: your character is on a mission to prevent the evil Campaigner from destroying the world. The storyline is almost non-existent, but the story really isn’t important in this game. Turok is all about the action. The gameplay mainly consists of two basic elements: run and gun. You will mostly be fighting nameless soldiers and dinosaurs, but there are some very hard boss fights near the end of the game.
Your arsenal consists of weapons you would expect, like shotguns and pistols, but many you wouldn’t expect, including explosive arrows and a very powerful rocket launcher. The games graphics are also superb. Everything from the character models (especially the dinosaurs) to the beautiful environment looks absolutely amazing. This game is worth a look just for the graphics. The sound is great too. The jungle sounds just like you would expect it to and your enemies’ screams of death sounds believable. There are only a few flaws with this game. One thing is the save system. You can only save your game at extremely rare save points. This is extremely annoying and makes the game a lot more difficult than it has to be.

Another thing is the enemy AI. Putting it simply: your enemies are stupid. They are very predictable and easy to kill. There are a few exceptions, however, like some of the dinosaurs and bosses. There is a lot of bloody violence in this game. People with weak stomachs may want to stay away from this game, but they won’t realize what they are missing. Many more people may not even see this game to the end because of the difficulty of the game. In each level you must find several keys in order to proceed. This can often be a difficult task due to the massive environment. You will have to explore a lot to find them all, and this takes time. Jumping can often be incredibly difficult due to the distance you need to get in a single jump. You will often need to jump across a huge crevasse to continue. This requires a lot of practice and patience on the player’s part. I consider the game’s difficulty a challenge and I don’t want to scare anyone away from trying it. It is very rewarding to actually finish the game. I love this game and I recommend it to everyone who has a system that can run it. You shouldn’t miss out on this extraordinary action title.
