Tyrian2000 is a triumph. A must have for anyone who is a die-hard retro-gamer. When I first played this game as a child I simply fell in love with the game and I was overjoyed when I discovered the ability to play it again using the dosbox emulator. I really enjoyed this game for many reasons. First off, the game features a vast amount of game play options. All of which range form playing the original game mode which allows you to purchase a variety of weapons, enhancements, as well as new ships even! Out of all the options in the customization menu for your ship, one of my personal favorite modifications are vulcan cannon side guns, fully upgraded sonic wave rear weapon, maxed shields, maxed generator, and full proton front guns upgrade on the modified stalker ship found in episode four of tyrian2000.

Also there is an arcade mode which allows gamers to constantly switch weapons by getting their powerups in game and collect spheres in game that allow the ability to gain more powerful weapons. In addition to both these game-play types two player modes are also an option and in between episode bonus games are also featured such as ziglon’s ale and ziglon’s revenge. The levels to the game are graphical wonders for their time ranging from the terraformed planet Tyrian to the spectacular awe of the alien world known as Geyes. The levels of Tyrian2000 also featured innovative ship and creature creations for enemies that you fought against in the heat of battle, the same could especially be said for the bosses you fight in the game such as the gryphon, and the dreadnaught. These bosses also required different strategies when battling. The audio in this game is phenomenal, when I first heard the tyrian level theme I was in awe at such a little midi masterpiece. The midis titled transon and space journey1 and space journey2 were also some of the best synthesized music files I have ever heard in an old retro classic. And most importantly, most memorable games usually have astounding replay value in them, Tyrian2000 is no exception. One time I even found myself so addicted to the game that I played the game from beginning to end on original game mode in a single day 4 - 6 hours straight! Overall, Tyrian2000 is one of the best dos games that I have ever played on a scale of 1 – 10 I’d give this game a 12 if I was allowed to exceed the range for rating the game.
