Virtual On: Cyber Trooper Operation Moon Gate is a game released by Sega in 1995. The game consists of high paced action and quick reflexes are needed to win this game. The game has two joysticks that are used for movement and act at triggers for firing the weapons that your robot has. There are nine giant robots that you can choose from all of which have their pros and cons, depending on the type of style you prefer, ranging from slow, lots of armor, lots of fire power, to thin armor and agile.

The game is based on player vs. player combat. The graphics are bright and bold, and in my opinion are quite excellent for the time period. The games controls

are easy to pick up and play but are hard to fully master. The sound in Virtual On Cyber Trooper: Operation Moon Gate is pretty good as well, having decent songs, that range from rock to disco like beats. The sound effects are well done as well, immersing you in the world that is virtual on.
This game is very big in Japan because of the anime companies and their fondness of giant robots. The game became an instant classic. PC version and Sega version of the game were made from the original arcade and sold million all over the continental US. Many Virtual On Cyber Trooper: Operation Moon Gate arcades can still be found at game shops or in arcades, like laser tron for instance. Although the arcade version doesn’t provide the gamer with a clear and focused story line, the games fast paced action and its counter system make up in that department.
I recommend this game for any one who has the slightest interest in giant robots, fighting games, or games in which you fight other people not just the computer. This games original game play will make a lasting impression on you, in a good way. Those are all the good things about the game, now for the not so good things, after about the second robot that you fight in single player mode, the CPUs intelligence goes up and the game begins to get very hard. The robots that you fight in cannot be customized in any way. It takes a bit of playing to get good at using some robots. You might also get discouraged after the second robot because of the difficulty level. Overall I give Virtual On: Cyber Trooper Operation Moon gate an 8 out of 10

Game Review 2 (written by L85a2) Added on: 07/25/2006
Virtual On! A great arcade robot game I must say. Fans of Gundam will also love this game. Although there may not be any type characters involved and there all AI's and computers you will still enjoy the various actions in it!
I myself have played the arcade version of it and I must say it is very, very impressive. And of course the arcade version's controls are very different but the game play is pretty much the same through out. You select one type of robot with its own type of weapons and abilities and such, then just go through a type of survival mode facing each robot after another and then arriving to a final unknown mech as the final boss. Robot or Mecha games don’t come too often on computer due to specs restrictions, so this is one hell of a chance to get your hands on a robot game that is unless you have a console which then becomes a different story.
Virtual On series has been a long and successful on although it hasn’t really been known and a great hit in other countries besides Japan. The first one was released around the 1997 era, was on Sega Saturn and has also released a sequel. Various posters, figures and model kits have also been released as a tribute to this Mecha action game. It may not be comparable to the all might Mobile Suit Gundam it’s a worthy candidate if any body out there is looking for a substitute robot game.
There is a wide range of Mecha robots to choose from I think there is around twelve or so when I played the arcade version of it, each unique and they all are well-balanced, but then again it is up to the pilot (you) to be able to utilize this machine effectively to achieve victory in battle! Even if you lose, you shall fall graciously as after all it’s just a game.
Japan is renowned of course for their excellent games and this one does not differ it has excellent graphics for its time, though some of the shapes and effects may look a little blunt. That we cant help unless anybody out there knows how to edit the game :-P.
In closing, anyone who has always wanted to look for mecha games, or any kind of game that can have a Mobile Suit Gundam feel to it, Virtual On Cybertroopers is your answer.
Download, play and have fun!

The arcade version is the bomb! If you haven't played the real thing, you've missed out on a whole world of fun! The controls are, as stated before, vastly different from the PC version because, well. They use dual joysticks! Anyway, if you want to get a good feel of how it is to pilot a mecha using two joysticks, find the real arcade machine. If you can't simply load this and enjoy this before you head out to jump into the real thing.
