Wacky Funsters

Wacky Funsters, released by Tsunami Media in 1992, presents players with the ultimate challenge: to create as much chaos and carnage possible. Instead of saving the world, your mission (should you choose to accept it), is to load up on as many steroids as humanly possible, obliterate animals and grannies alike in the street while picking up fuel cans to prolong the carnage, and shoot as many beloved woodland creatures as you can to rack up points. If you’re looking for a cohesive storyline, you won’t find one; however, what you will find is humor to keep you riveted to the game, if for no other reason than to incur yet another guffaw-worthy pearl of wisdom from the king, your mentor in irreverence.

You are the geeky gamer, decked out in oversized spectacles, complete social ineptitude, and just about every other geeky stereotype one can imagine. As you complete each of the inane challenges posed by your fearless leader—the disembodied head of a generic king—he will either congratulate you or eviscerate you based on your performance. At times, the king will take a vacation so that The [Real] King, Elvis Presley, can offer his own words of wisdom with the sort of “hunka-hunka-burnin’-cheese” (a direct quote from the game) candor that only Elvis can pull off.
The combat is clunky and cartoonish, but the sight of your character beefing up on steroids is not entirely devoid of comedic charm. Moreover, you will find yourself clapping with morally reprehensible glee as you mow down hobbling grannies, livestock, and errant squirrels in the Roadkill game. Rambi, the hunting game, will ask you to throw animal rights to the wind as you shoot grazing deer and innocent, fluffy little bunnies. Swim through the toxic bloodstream of a steroid user to beef yourself up for combat in the Steroids game. Ping, a grittier version of its inspiration, Pong, requires reflex and brawn as you strive not only to whack some ball past your opponent, but also to break his tennis racket.
If you’re looking for a warm, fuzzy game filled with true love, butterflies, and happy endings, Wacky Funsters is most certainly not your cup of tea. If you’re looking for a game whose quirky anti-charm and unapologetic, cartoonish gore will keep your trigger finger busy for a few hours, then this game is worth downloading. Put moral fiber on the backburner and let the sweet smell of victory (and steroids…and carcasses) fill the room.
