Like the movie, the plot of the DOS video game has Roger Rabbit framed for the murder of Acme Corporation head honcho, Marvin Acme. The settin gis 1947 Hollywood, and cartoons are alive and well, running all over a portion of the town, called
Toon Town. This area was owned by Marvin Acme and in his will, it states that the town will be given to the toons after his demise. Unfortunately, the will cannot be found. There is a lot going on here in this game. Roger has to clear his name of the murder, find the will to save Toon Town, and also save his lovely red-headed wife Jessica from the evil Judge Doom.
The game features four levels and each has a slightly different type of action. Levels one and three are driving games, both featuring Roger Rabbit and everyone’s favorite cab, Benny. These two levels both involve racing Judge Doom’s weasels, dodging obstacles (such as Judge Doom’s dip), cars and trams. There are numerous power-ups to help Benny become more a more powerful and speedy cab. Level two involves collecting all of the scattered pieces of the will that are resting on the tables of the Ink and Paint Club. Roger Rabbit has to run around and scoop up the fragments as the penguin waiters put them on the tables. There will be obstacles here too in the form of gorilla bouncers and flying alcohol. Finally, the fourth level puts Roger Rabbit inside Judge Doom’s dip truck warehouse attempting to save Jessica. This is an odd level, and Roger will have to use gags, tricks and jokes to progress across the platform and leave Doom’s weasels laughing to death.
Overall, Who Framed Roger Rabbit is a silly game that reflects a very silly movie. Still, it is very colorful, engaging, funny and it does somewhat follow the plot of the blockbuster hit. It should provide a few laughs and some solid entertainment for the casual gamer.
