Wizball

PC
Genre:  Arcade    |     Year: 1987    |     Publisher: Ocean     |     Developer: Sensible Software
Game Review (written by Lindsay2) Added on: 11/30/2007
Wizball by Ocean is an arcade game that came out in 1987. Yes, this game is very old and old school. It is what is called a horizontal scroll type game. It involves navigating around shooting sprites. You are actually a sprite as well, and your world has been colored in three shades of black.
The object of the game is to collect drops of paint that are different colors. You have access to three different levels at the same time and you can get back and forth to them through portals.

At first, your sprite can only jump up and down, controlling only the rotation

of his movement and ultimately how fast he will jump up after hitting the ground. Your sprite also is not capable of collecting the paint droplets. The green pearls that will appear after shooting some of the bad guys give you tokens which can be used to buy upgrades for your sprite. You will be able to buy things like better control of the movement over your sprite, improved firepower, and a cat. It is actually called a Catellite and its name is Nifta. This cat is a spherical sprite which will follow your sprite around and can be controlled and moved separately from your own. Only Nifta is able to collect the paint droplets so you should buy that first. If you play in two player mode, Nifta is controlled by the second player. In the two player mode, with the second player controlling Nifta, it makes for an even more interesting game. You can finish the levels in any order and in this mode, it can happen even faster. After your sprite and your cat go back to the castle, taking their normal shapes back, and mix the colors to paint the level and complete it.
This game came out in the late 80s, so the graphics are good for the time the game came out. This game is a lot of fun, although it can be frustrating at times. So if you want to have fun downloading this game and enjoy!
