This game (in its original format) was the first really commercial FPS (next to other games like Blake Stone and Ken's Labyrinth which came out in the early 90's) and became the godfather of FPS genre. Its many modern day predecessors including DOOM, Strife, Rise of the Triads, etc have filled the afternoons and late nights of many teenage boys who grew up in the 90's - The game itself to today standards is flawed however -
LEVEL DESIGN
The 3D engine used to create the levels is ancient, comprising of 8 bit textured walls and pallets.

The 3D engine used to create the levels is ancient, comprising of 8 bit textured walls and pallets. This version has the MK skin, which gives the weapons and the enemies a very mortal kombat feel and look. The game still plays out like Wolfenstein
3D, the only exception being the MK MOD. I'm a huge fan of Mortal Kombat and it was nice to see the old familiar faces attacking you, although the graphics do tend to spoil it. If you’re a fan of both games I'd recommend giving it a try, but be warned that the graphics and gameplay are cloned throughout the game (making the game only slightly appealing for the first few levels) and are severely dated - if compared to today's First Person Shooters.
SOUNDS
The sound is bearable, and again very monotonous as the level designs are. Nothing special sadly.
GAMEPLAY
You literally move around and shoot things that move, slapping the spacebar against walls to find secret rooms and opening doors - it gets old very quickly. It uses the same point and shoot system as DOOM, so you won't be able to aim with your mouse, just the barrel of the gun/fist - there isn't any 3D depth to the game so all enemies will be on the same level as you (no high rises for enemies to hide and no enemies below)
I bought the original Wolfenstein 3D as shareware as a kid, and even then the game did not bring me much joy (Blake Stone appealed to me much more) and although I got a kick out of shooting nazis the exhilaration was just not there. My advice is try this one out if you’re a fan of Wolfenstein 3D and/or a fan of Mortal Kombat, but be warned - don't look for any new surprises or interesting plot developments as you will be highly disappointed. A personal rating for this game would be 5/10 - the 5 given for the Mortal Kombat Mod.
