Game Review 1 (written by Rhinia) Added on: 09/22/2006
The computer version of Risk is much the same as the original board game. Its turn based tactics draw out the game for hours of amusing game-play, exactly like the board game. As a fan of the board game, there aren't a lot of people my age that I can play the board game with because of the time it requires etc. The game has a single player function which allows any board game fan to play by them versus the computer.
However, playing by you can get to be a bit annoying, as the game leans a wee bit on the repetitive side. Click, roll dice, and see if you're dead. The appeal of the board game, which follows the same pattern, is the human interaction. So, whilst the game does offer some fun strategy, the repetitive click can get a bit annoying.
The game offers different maps and conquest options, which does help to take the edge off of the tedium. There's the classic map, and a few others that can be played. You can win either by Global Domination, taking a certain Territory or taking an amount of capitals. It can be a lot of fun!
Unfortunately, each game takes a while to play, just like the board game. Each game can last 30 - 90 minutes, and because of the age that can cause a bit of strain to the eyes. I have heard some people complain about the sounds getting annoying, but that is easily remedied by turning the sound of your computer off and listening to something else.
All in all, the game is as good as you make it out to be. I enjoyed it merely because I do not know many people who play the board game, and it is one of my favorites. So, for those looking for stunning graphics and an amazing plot line and all those new things had better just go and buy the latest Final Fantasy. But for the people who are just looking for a good way to kill a couple of hours playing a good old version of Risk without the hassle of rounding up a load of people, this is a very good game indeed.
The game allows you to multitask with other things can be slightly addictive, sound card and graphics could be better, but this was made a good while ago. No real complaints on my part. I'm just thrilled to have someone to play with. You’ll sure enjoy this game!
| | | | | Game Review 2 (written by Dorsia99) Added on: 08/28/2006 You could say that I’m an expert at playing Risk by now. I know a thing or two about the game, and Risk for Windows does a pretty good job of reliving the board game experience. The Windows version of this classic and intense game is moderately easy to understand and use. Nothing can match the board game encounters; however, playing against computer opponents can be as invigorating. The only trouble with it is that you cannot perform any house rules in the game, because, if you would play Risk as much as I do, you would find that there are many imperfections in the game. House rules correct these minor details. Regardless, Windows is a good program to run one of the best board games ever conceived by man.
The computer is a pretty difficult opponent comparatively to some of my newbie friends. One of the computer players goes after Australia, in which everyone knows always wins the game. Australia is one of the key continents that usually win the game. One of the computer players is inertly, a noob. It goes to take over the worst continent, Asia. It fails quickly and the rest of the field takes him over eventually. I usually win every game I play just because there isn’t any mind games with your opponent or any intimidation.
You can also play against people on the internet. This feature makes the game very enjoyable. So, if you have some hours to spare, and you feel that you can take on some of the biggest nerds in the world, then Risk of Windows is for you. There is a game on all the time; so, if you wake up at three in the morning with an appetite for Risk, then this game could satisfy your hunger.
So, in conclusion, Risk for Windows is easy to install, cheap, and a whole lot of fun to play. Just think about it, how long does a game of Risk take to play? Four hours at the least. So, if you fork over a few bucks, this game will reward you with hours of mediocre entertainment for the truly bored or the people that don’t have lives to live.

Icunvnme (08/03/2007) It is a strategically, intelligent game! I have spent hours upon hours playing this game. (10/23/2006) Real nice version of the famous Risk made by a solo programmer. This time there are only 3 players while the rest is the same. Get Your armies, conquer continents and take over all the world.Toottywooty (09/08/2006) Never really like the controls on the computer, but it's a good game anyway. |
