Game Review (written by Carolina_customs) Added on: 09/02/2006
I've been working on computers since I was old enough to sit in the office chair by myself. Unlike all the other games I played growing up, Adventures in Math was actually fun to play and probably my favorite game as a child. I still enjoy playing it today! :-) Everyone knows math drills are more boring than having your teeth cleaned! Adventures in Math are not that way at all!
How could traveling through a castle solving math problems picking up treasures and learning not be exciting? The problems get progressively harder the deeper you delve into the castle. There are different difficulty levels and it does have some support online. I would give this game to any child needing help or practice with their math skills, heck I would give this game to anyone.
This game is a great classic for anyone, no matter the age even if you don't need the help or practice! Don't expect anything from the 21st century as far as graphics go it is an old game, 1983 was far from the year of amazing graphics by any means. But, don't let that hold you back; it is still one of the greatest games I think I have ever played. It is easy to use, fun to use, and hours of excitement! It is written in BASIC, so it isn't the fastest game in the world but it one of the better games made in this time.
I would put this game in the realm with Number Crunchers and Math Blaster. Math has a lot to do with memorization so the more the game is played the more they understand. Nothing is better than learning and playing at the same time and for kids they might not even realize they are learning which I suppose with some kids is probably a good thing! I give this game some credit for my love of math and my definite love of computers and video games.
I have also heard studies that math and music go hand in hand. I was so very excited to find this game available still. Parents don’t think you won’t get addicted just as easily as your children. There is nothing wrong with some simple fun now and again. Much better than sitting in front of your computer playing solitaire or spider and realizing that you have been sitting there for three hours! Again, I must give this game two thumbs up!
