Drivers Education ‘98 is a nifty little game. When I first saw this game I thought “wow, this looks like it could be interesting” with low expectations. The graphics are alright for this kind of game. The cars look good and are fairly detailed. The virtual city that the player is able to drive in is a little less than point and click game because the player doesn’t actually ‘drive’ the car around. It’s a matter of pushing the right button at the right time to do the desired effect, turn left, turn right, brake, start, fasten seat belt, etc.

Where the solid part of the game lies is not in the driving test, it actually lies in lessons.
You actually have to sit and read through sections of material on driving instructions, safety, vehicle operation, laws and other like topics, including taking a test at the end of each section that you must get all answers correct to pass said test. Most of the tests are not very hard and a lot of the questions rely on common sense to make sure people are actually reading the questions and not just trying to get to the point to play around in the virtual city.
Drivers Ed ’98 is not a game for people who are looking for fast exciting driving or something quick and fun to play. This game is actually an educational game that teaches people the main gist of driver’s education from the real world. This, however, does not give players leeway to go straight out and get their license, nor is it guaranteed to get them their license first try in the real world. This game will prepare the new driver looking to get his or her permit by helping them to get a heads up on what to expect when they take the real drivers education, again, this game is by no means a substitute for the real class. Consider Drivers Ed ’98 a support material for the young driver. Parents especially should consider this for their kids to give them a head start on automotive safety.
In a short summary this game is no match for the real skill of driving, just because you ace this game doesn’t mean you’re a pro stunt car driver. Driver’s education is a quick download, and great for education, the only draw back that I was able to find was the lack of instructional movies having to do with not owning the original cd that the movies are attached to, overall it was pretty enjoyable to refresh my mind on the proper procedures of starting up a car, ah nostalgia!
