Game Review 1 (written by Nelmsn) Added on: 09/15/2006
I first played Number Munchers when I was in elementary school, in "computer" class, and I had a blast! It was a fun game because it throws some variety into it so it isn't actually only munching "numbers," but, if I can remember right it had different categories, with things such as clothing, whether it be striped, polka dotted, plaid, or plain clothing you were munching... or maybe it was tools?
I think I had to munch tools at one point. Numbers and letters seemed to be the more "educational" options, but, it added a more fun element to the game by changing it up more.

I think I had to munch tools at one point. Numbers and letters seemed to be the more "educational" options, but, it added a more fun element to the game by changing it up more. Though, it was still educational, I remember it actually being challenging when I

was younger, therefore, I think it is a great game for kids, because it is challenging and makes you think, but it is also a lot of fun at the same time!
It was like, on my lunch break sometimes, I would go sit in the library just to play number munchers! It's like the teachers were tricking kids into learning, because what they were learning was actually fun.
Honestly though, I think I could still play it now a days just to keep my math skills sharp, and keep me updated, because there actually are more harder levels, that actually do get harder. And I just don't think it is a bad idea to play, no matter how old you are. If you are a parent, maybe you can help your young kids play it and learn and excel in math, it is really a good, game, but not only good, fun!
It is rare to be able to get kids to be able to do actually school related work of their own free will, but if they actually have a game that is fun, they will be at it all the time! What more could you ask for?
And as still sort of a kid myself, I think it is still fun to play, as in, I actually play it for fun, how is that for a educational game? I actually play it to have fun, not because it helps me in school... if you could get any kid to do that... things would be easier, and maybe they would look forward to school more often, and want to have fun in math, which is usually a subject that kids struggle in, or don't like as much as their other ones?
It is worth a try at least, especially when you can just download it off of the internet! Play Number Munchers!

Game Review 2 (written by Dmodest) Added on: 08/23/2006
I loved to play this game when I was in elementary school! It is a great way to learn basic math computations such as multiplication, division, addition and subtraction. The game play and skill level goes from someone who is just beginning to learn various math concepts to the advanced student simply wishing to hone skills and speed. The graphics and sound are not the greatest as expected when compared to today's games, but the characters and animation are quite amusing. I strongly recommend this game to all as it is a greater teaching tool and a great game for anyone who is just looking to kill some time. I remember playing this game on old Apple machines but with today's technology, this game can be played on various systems.
Game-play: you start as a little green character which resembles the character in the game 'Frogger'. As you proceed from level to level, you have an objective of munching the specified numbers for this level. For example, if you're on a level for the multiple of 3's then the only numbers eligible for munching would be 3, 6, 9, 12, etc... The board is setup as a matrix with the cells filled with various values. Some correct and some incorrect.
Oh, and did I mentioned the Troggles that are chasing you around? They can move from square to square and chase you around the board. If they capture you, you lose a life. Troggles can also be beneficial as they can change the values that are in the squares. As you gain points and move to higher levels, you will encounter stronger, faster, and even smarter Troggles. I strongly recommend that you stay away from the edges as Troggles tend to appear quickly. The only good thing is that the Troggles do not appear unannounced. I can't remember is a sound clip is played or a message is displayed, but I do remember that the Troggles do not just simply appear without any forewarning.
This game is fairly old and small so it does not require much hard drive space or take up a lot of system resources. I am sure that you can find this game online and be able to run on various platforms. In conclusion, the game is fun and entertaining for all ages so why not pick it up and take the family back down memory lane!

I love number munchers. I used it as a child and now I want it for my own children. The skills acquired will be detrimental to their development and will improve their math skills as well as reflex with numbers as well as computer and fine motor skills.
