Game Review 1 (written by Rysbrowneyedgirl) Added on: 09/12/2006
This game is amazing!!! I loved this game so much when I was little and it continues to entertain me today as a grown woman. I remember being able to change the color and size of your fish making it whatever you wanted or you could just pick the mission mode. This game is filled with challenges and really tests your abilities to think and your ability to find "hidden" food sources.
When you start you can either pick to create your own fish to use or you can use the tournament mode which is basically a mission.
You then try to find food for the fish they gave you and also have to watch out for predators if you have any. This game can be very challenging because you can't let your fish go hungry or you die and have to start all over again. If you succeed in getting enough food for the first fish they gave you, they give you another one to use and you continue on until you eventually die.
Your score can then be ranked and you can start over if you wish to. The graphics on this game were pretty good for the time, but of course, nowadays they are very old, but good none the less. This game

is also a learning game because each fish they give you in tournament mode is a real fish and they give you the name of that fish, what it eats, and who its predators are if it has any. It can be very educational because as you get better at the game, the more fish you use, the more fish you learn about. It gets to the point where many of the fish you use in the beginning are common knowledge to you and you can practically recite all of their traits.
All in all, this game is very fun and can be enjoyed by anyone. Children will love it and will be learning in the process. I still remember long ago when my mom would be working and she would let me play this game to pass the time. Since she was a science teacher, I think it was only befitting that she let me play this game.
So if you are looking for a game that is both educational and fun, this is the game for you. This game is even worth a try for those of you that just want something fun. By the time you are done playing this game for the first time, you'll have the theme song at the beginning memorized and you'll just want to keep playing!

Game Review 2 (written by Wrestlerjrh) Added on: 08/30/2006
Odell Down Under is a surprisingly entertaining game. It is more in depth than most games of this genre that I can think of and is educational as well. I have fond memories of playing this as a kid and was excited to find the game again. It offers the ability to play as any fish in the game stand alone, various series of fish that build up from smallest to largest, and attempt to go through most of the possible fish, and a create a fish section.
All are worth playing and there is a surprisingly high replay value for this game. While this will never be an addictive game that keeps you busy for hours, it is a top notch game that is at least worth dedicating some spare time to. I personally found the create a fish section quite entertaining as well as educational as it teaches you what a fish needs to survive and you realize things like, yeah being a giant shark has benefits, but there are downsides.
The variety of fish in the game is astonishing, though I suppose it is much smaller than the actually number that are supported by the teeming ecosystem that this game attempts to simulate. I can't say that I am an expert on the subject, but the information that the game is based on seems to be legitimate and well researched with enough there that both children and adults can learn from it. I know most people do not play computer games for the sole purpose of educating themselves, but it is not a bad thing to get a little education in along with a pretty fun game.
This game has a small place in my heart, but will never be what one would call a classic. It is a solid time waster, lunch break style game that fills an interesting niche. If you are looking for an addicting classic look somewhere else (perhaps an Oregon Trail Download would be a better fit) but if you just want something that you can spend a little time on, and maybe learn something along the way, this could be the game for you.
Of course with the small size of the game and very easy requirements why don't you download it and find out rather than taking my word for it, as long as you have your expectations in line with what this game really is, you might find yourself please with what you end up with. Overall a decent game!

Growing up this was a dear & precious favorite of mine. To this day I have yet to find as fun or as educational a game as 'Odell Down Under'! This is a must for any parent out there who wishes to introduce their children to the wonders of marine ecology second hand in a fun & educationally fulfilling manor.

Gosh, I haven't played this game since 2nd grade. But I still love it! Graphics aren’t as good as I remember but the gameplay is still just as fun. Basically you’re a fish of your choice and you just swim around and eat stuff and try not to die. Sounds boring, but it’s actually loads of fun.
