I cannot remember the last time I played Oregon Trail. When I was searching on the Internet for a game to play, it just came into my mind: “I should try and find an
Oregon Trail Download.” I was not disappointed when I finally found the game.
Using an AppleWin emulator, I was able to play the game in all its original glory. It was classified as an educational game, and I can see the basis for that. But unlike most educational games, this one is actually fun to play.
The graphics are not great and the music is not exactly stereo-quality, but I think that added to its charm. Game play is very simple, yet it is still challenging enough to keep your interests peaked.
Whether your clothes are stolen by a thief in the night, or someone in your party gets bitten by a snake, the game forces you to manage your money and your time wisely in order to keep your family happy and healthy on the long journey to Oregon. Random events like fires and thieves stealing your stuff keep you on your toes. The game also allows you to make choices that affect your journey. You have a choice as to the kind of profession
you are in and this affects the amount of points you get if you make it to Oregon. You get the least amount of points for being a banker and the most amount for being a farmer. With your money, you choose how much food to buy, how many oxen, the amount of clothes you and your party need, the amount of ammunition you need, and what type and how many spare parts you think you might need for the trip. You pass by many notable and historic landmarks on the way.
The game allows you to talk with other emigrants and get advice about the trail. You can also trade with other travelers to get things that might be too expensive for you to buy. Food is also a necessity, and the game allows you to buy food at the store and hunt for it when you are out on the trail. This includes deciding what month you are going to leave, which route you are going to take in certain areas, and how you are going to cross rivers.
This game is great fun for kids of all ages and adults alike. It is a good way to teach children responsibility and teach them that the choices they make will affect them later in life. So, if you are interested in a game that teaches you about managing your resources and a little bit about history at the same time, this is the game for you.
