Genre:  Educational    |     Year: 1995    |     Publisher: Maxis Software Inc.     |     Developer: Maxis Software, Inc.
Game Review (written by Eric) Added on: 02/16/2008
SimTown was published by Maxis in 1995. The goal of the game is to create and manage your own little town composed of streets, houses, businesses, parks, and other infrastructure needed for a self sufficient town. The game is similar to the game SimCity only this smaller version of the game is made easier so that children can play it.
At the start of the game, the player will have an empty land where you shall build your own town. This means you decided where the houses will stand, where the roads will pass through, where parks will be placed and where other buildings essential for town life will be built.

liking, you must now manage the town and make sure that the citizens of the town remain happy so as not to abandon the town. You will be in charge of the whole town’s electricity and water supply and you will also be in charge of the town’s garbage disposal. To keep the town going, you must ensure that you have enough funds for the expenses of the town. If you do not manage the town well you might end up with a chaotic town with unhappy citizens.
You must keep a balance between the things that your citizens want to happen for your town and what specific things you need to build and implement to benefit your town in the long run.
There should be a balance between the numbers of people in the town, the number of residential buildings to the number of jobs available for the people. You must also make sure there are enough parks and social establishments to keep the people happy.
To monitor the condition in the town there is a local newspaper that provides feedback to you regarding what is happening in your town. You can also get feedback from a character you can create in the game. You will be able to read this character’s diary entries giving you an insight on what is happening in your little town.
This is a fantastic game that kids will surely enjoy because of the simplicity of the concept yet the excitement it provides. This game is really ideal for children because it doesn’t feature violence or any inappropriate ideas, languages or concepts in the game. Even if the game is intended for children, even adults can enjoy it.
