Game Review 1 (written by Eric) Added on: 02/06/2008
The $100,000 pyramid was released in the early 90s by Sierra Online and was based on the TV game show with the same title. If you are not familiar with said TV Show, do not fret it was actually shows in the70s! The game show was originally entitled “The $10,000 pyramid” but the title of the game was changed in the course of its 18-year history.
The concept of the TV show is pretty simple. There are two players who are each paired with a celebrity.

The concept of the TV show is pretty simple. There are two players who are each paired with a celebrity. The two teams will then take turns choosing categories. One member of the team will give verbal clues as to the “answers” in the categories while his/ her partner makes a guess as to what the answers are. The team with

the highest score will move on to the winners’ circle. In the winners circle the tandem now has to solve more difficult “answers”. If the team gets to answer six correct answers they walk away with a jackpot prize. The PC game works pretty much the same way.
The game has a 2D graphics that are not as impressive as the other games released in the 90s. The graphics really does not do much for the game and the only impressive graphics is presented during the introduction of the game and during interludes. But throughout the game, graphics are pretty boring.
The music is more entertaining and better created than the graphics and is responsible for creating a fun and light mood for the game.
The game has a multi-player feature which makes it even more fun to play. It’s like really being in a game show. In the single player game, you are given a choice between four characters. Your chosen character will appear at one corner of the screen. The clues will be given by the AI on the screen so you can guess the answers. To give answers, you will type in the answers through the keyboard.
In the multiple-player mode which is more fun, you or your partner will give the verbal clues while the other one guesses. There is no need to type in the answers, you just need to turn away from the screen if you are the one guessing the answer and give your answer verbally to your partner.
If you like board games or PC games that are based on TV shows then I highly recommend this game.

Game Review 2 (written by Shannon) Added on: 01/03/2008
Get ready for a blast from the past with the video game version of the $100,000 Pyramid. Based on the classic game show of the same name, the $100,000 Pyramid game is an excellent conversion of the television show that received sixteen Emmy nominations in its long run on the air. This DOS version from Sierra On-Line features John Davidson, one of the later hosts of the game.
The game can be played by only one player, using computer AI for the partner and both opponents. It can also be played with four players working as partners, or two players with computer contestants filling in the other two spots. There are two difficulty settings. The user chooses from a few generic characters to play, and the game begins.
In the original game, two contestants were each paired with a celebrity partner. They took turns choosing a category from playing board before them, which was in the shape of a pyramid. The categories were unrelated, and often the title of the category gave a clever hint as to the nature of the clues beneath the hidden tile. When the category was revealed, one partner had to give a list of hints in an effort to make his partner supply the answer that appeared in the teleprompter before him. The play is timed. Play alternated in this manner until the categories were all used up, then the person with the most correct answers received a chance at the big money by taking his partner to the $100,000 pyramid.
Play in the video game version is very similar to the original. The individual supplying the clues receives both the object word and a list of clues. The “giver” then has to select the best clues that will draw the appropriate word from his partner. If the user is on the receiving end, he has to painstakingly enter each and every clue into the keyboard in order to make a guess. This is time consuming, especially if the guess is incorrect and another has to be made.
However, The $100,000 Pyramid is not a bad game and is a reasonably faithful adaptation of the game show. It does get somewhat tedious, but it is still, good old fashioned, clean fun that will make the user think a bit. It is the most fun when it can be played with four people, since the AI is canned and somewhat predictable. It is worth the download for game show fans and most anyone else who is looking for some clean amusement.
