Diggers

PC
Genre:  Puzzle    |     Year: 1994    |     Publisher: unknown     |     Developer: unknown
Game Review (written by Travsho) Added on: 09/14/2007
I first started playing diggers in 1996. The game created itself its whole own genre which involves elements of strategy and action. The game is based on a race of miners (which you pick) trying to get rich by mining the mineral rich land of Zorg. There are loads of different maps to play with different styles of land. Some lands are sandy beaches and others are deserts.
At first the gameplay is a bit tricky because of the difficulty experienced when trying to navigate through the controls for each digger.

At first the gameplay is a bit tricky because of the difficulty experienced when trying to navigate through the controls for each digger. It is also made harder because of the fact that you can only control one digger at a time. To help dig you are able to employ a whole lot of bought equipment

such as drills, explosives and lifts. The graphics are pretty nice but there is not a lot of sound. When you start a level there are another bunch of miners trying to beat you. To win a zone on the map you must either kill all the opposing diggers or collect the set cash amount for that level. To kill the opponents you can use many methods including flooding their mine system, forcing them down large drops and attacking them outright with your diggers.
To reach the cash amount you mine for diamonds, gold, rubies and emeralds. You can then sell these at your base in return for money which is called zogs. The overall cash requirement for the whole map is 17500 zogs. This amount can be hard to reach as there are penalties for dead diggers in the zones that you play. Because of the many ways that you can defeat a level the game has a high replayability. Personally I like to flood the enemy or collect the cash amount. I frequently make mistakes and flood my own mine which creates problems. There are a number of hazards in the zones such as skeletons, drowning in the water caverns, long drops, teleporters which take you to places such as water or monsters and even your own devices such as explosives.
When I first played it took a while to get used to the interface and the jerky camera movement which follows your diggers. I highly recommend this classic game because of its high playability and style of play which I hope can one day be beaten by and even better diggers game. So go ahead and download this great game and you will know a great classic.

Gets me all nostalgic and reminds me of my childhood days. This game is extremely addictive. The game is relatively easy at first, and soon it becomes quite challenging. I'd definitely recommend this game to anyone who regards a challenge as fun. I enjoyed the game, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
