Game Review (written by Skipatrol32) Added on: 11/22/2006
Gapper is a very enthralling, entertaining, and captivating arcade style old school computer game. I used to play this game as a young child before windows three point one was available to the public. it was one of my first computer games along with baby bounce and other family favorites. I ran it off an old four point five floppy disk. I tried to download it on my gateway 2000 (windows 3.1 operating system) and subsequent machines but it ran off their computer clock speeds and crashed because it was way too fast.
In order to run the game a clock speed regulator is required or the game will be way too fast to enjoy game play on any modern computers. The graphics are prehistoric and extremely simple.
You are a little man who is allowed to travel along a grid of paths. When you travel down the paths you secure a line, when you secure all four lines surrounding a box it lights up. When you light up all the boxes you score points and advance in levels. The main colors in the game are blue and red. The obstacle is to avoid another little man that chases you around the grid. You can, however, leave little gaps behind you that the other little man cannot cross temporarily,

hence the name "gapper".
As you advance in levels the gameplay speeds up and the boxes become smaller and start changing shapes. On the main screen of the game there are more colors including yellow, orange, and purple. There are also four main functions and you command the functions by entering in the corresponding letter. P: Play a game, Q: Quit, N: New player, and I: instructions. You also enter in your initials at the beginning of the game so it can record high scores. Important strategy skills in the game include timing, and controlling and avoiding the little man that chases you around the grid.
Gapper is a very enjoyable, simple, and entertaining game for anyone wanting a quick play arcade style game. This game brings back very fond memories of playing with my siblings in my old house in Maryland. Anyone who used to play this game as a kid would be very excited to play this game and rediscover the fun they used to have as a kid. Another game that is a lot like this one in style is bouncing babies.
