Game Review (written by Chrissi) Added on: 11/25/2007
The Humans is a puzzle solving strategy game where you will guide a group of humans through the evolution of modern man. You will be going through discovering various objects just like were done in real life. One of your main enemies in this game is the dinosaur. There will be approximately eight humans per level. When one human dies another from the tribe will replace him. There is a set number of humans per game, and if you have only a few humans left you may not be able to further along in a few levels since they require a certain number of humans. In a few levels there are prisoners that can be rescued and added onto your tribe. This helps if you are slowly loosing all your tribe members.
During the game you will be able to control one human at a time. You will have to switch back and forth between the humans to control each individually. In a few of the levels the humans will have the ability to pick up some equipment and use or throw them for defence. The humans are able to climb up onto each other’s shoulders to get further up on higher platforms. They may seem wobbly, but this is expected when you are climbing up numerous humans to get higher and higher.
The first item that you will discover is the spear. This helps at keeping the enemies away from you and is used to kill. The best use of the spear is to use it like a pole vault over bigger gaps, allowing you to get even further in the game. The next item you will discover is the torch. It is quite similar to the spear, but you are unable to use it as a pole vault. Throughout some levels you may encounter bushes that you can’t get passed, with the torch you are able to set these on fire to get them out of your path. There are two more items that can be discovered throughout the game, but you’ll have to play it to find out.
There is an additional character in the game that can be a great addition to your tribe. This would be the shaman. They are unable to use items, but can be used as sacrifice instead of using one of your useful tribe members.
Throughout the entire game there are eighty puzzle adventure levels to go through. There are a lot of obstacles to surpass such as cliffs and boulders. This game will require a lot of teamwork to get further along in the game. The graphics that go along with the game do suit it quite well. There has been a lot of detail put into every single level showing how much effort has been put into this game.
The Humans has definitely been a great action puzzle game. With so many things to discover and having to control a large tribe, you’d expect this game to be very difficult. Shockingly it is simple enough to sit and play. Once you’ve figured out all the controls and what you’re suppose to do, this game will become more exciting and hilarious. If you’ve enjoyed games like Lemmings, there is no doubt you will enjoy this game just as much. Even if you’ve never tried games like this before, you will soon find yourself in a trance attempting to defeat the game. The Humans is by far a great evolution game.
