Nyet 3: The Revenge of the Mutant Stones, in a nutshell, is a clone of the wildly popular game of Tetris. Nyet 3 is a type of puzzle game that was published by Pearl America and developed by Proline Software. It was released for play on the personal computer in the middle nineties and features real time gaming action. It is a strategy style of puzzle game, again similar to Tetris, that involves the placing of the playing pieces to make a strategic arrangement that will garner the user the most points.
Similar to Tetris, Nyet 3 offers different levels to conquer, but Nyet 3 presents them in sets. There are a total of seven sets, each one harboring eighteen challenging levels. When the user begins a set, he will be able to tackle the levels in whatever order he chooses. When he defeats all levels in a set, he can move on to the next set. Because this is basically a Tetris clone, the goal in each level is very similar to the Tetris missions. Usually, the user has to complete X number of full rows by dropping and manipulating the colored blocks and shapes as they fall. He will have to maneuver the pieces
to fill the box as efficiently as possible to fill the lines, and once he reaches his goal for the level, play will stop and he will advance to a new level.
Nyet 3: The Revenge of the Mutant Stones does offer some interesting upgrades from the original Tetris game. Yes, the shapes of the falling blocks are pretty much the same and the goals for the levels are strikingly similar, but the levels themselves are very different. There are obstacles found in each one, unlike the blank box one must fill in Tetris. Within Nyet 3, the user will have to deal with invisible boxes and blockades. There will be indestructible snakes running about the screen that the user will have to trap with falling blocks instead of using the pieces to make rows. With each completed level, the user will be given money instead of points. This money can be used to purchase power-ups between levels to help the player advance. Sometimes these power-ups seem to be the only way to defeat levels, so earning money and choosing your power-ups wisely are imperative to success in Nyet 3. The power-ups themselves come in two categories: temporary and permanent. Some will require you to activate them by pressing a key on the board at the time you need it. For example, a bomb will destroy the top rows of blocks if your box is getting too close to the top and the end of the game. However, some power-ups, such as the ability to preview the upcoming block, will stay with you always after you buy it. Even saving the game requires the use of a power-up.
So, rotate those pieces and fill up that box. Look out for the snakes and research your power-ups. This is a greatly fun and challenging puzzle game.
