DEB CARLSON…. COME ON DOWN!!!! That’s right boys and girls, it’s the Price is Right. This is the perfect game if you are feeling a tinge bad about the departure of Mr. Bob Barker. You have the TV Show version all in one little spot, YOUR computer. The show I remember watching on TV when I was home sick from school growing up. I love trying to guess the prices of items, as from what I remember in the stores. It's fun to root for the contestants and to see how close the bids are on the showcase showdowns.
But now… I don’t have to. I get to play it myself!!!
The graphics are spectacular and in an 80’s sort of way. It brings me back to the days that I sat at Chuck E Cheese and played Tron. The way Barker’s Babes look with the 80’s graphics brought me back to my childhood sick days, and brought a tear to my eye. I really enjoyed guessing prices from the late 80’s but seeing as most of you weren’t alive back then, you probably have no idea what a record player is, let alone a cassette player. And that was all the good stuff!
Now… on to the bad stuff. My main complaint is that the pricing was outdated and reflective of 80’s
prices. Items on the game no longer exist. For instance, a record player and a cassette player. In a world of computers, video games, DVDs, and cell phones, the game should include up to date pricing and merchandise. And Bob Barker is practically dying, so the game should think about getting a new, hipper host, like Clay Aiken. Bob Barker is extremely dull for such a fun game. He’s as dull as a Buick Skylark.
Now we’ll pick on the graphics. Barker’s Babes were more like Barker’s blocky, fuzzy bunnies. There was no separation of head from body, they were missing their necks. I didn’t even know that was Janice. The game play also lagged quite a bit from time to time. That could just be the old DOS format that it was written in, which compliments the cheesy 80’s graphics. The sound on the Price Is Right video game made me queasy and sick to my stomach, again, bringing me back to my childhood sick days. I expected to spin the wheel and have it make the famous and lovely “doot doot doot doot” noise. But to my horror and great disappointment, the video game version of the wheel made out of tune “bip bip bip” noise.
And that’s all I have to say about The Price is Right video game.
