Game Review (written by Shannon) Added on: 01/12/2008
Puzz 3-D Notre Dame Cathedral is a puzzle game that took advantage of the craze that involved three dimensional jig saw puzzles, many of which were of famous monuments and buildings. This particular game also adds some elements of adventure gaming as a type of miniature game to go along with the jig saw puzzling.
As the user manipulates the puzzle pieces and the building begins to take shape, the building will be drawn before the user’s eyes. The building then becomes a beautiful rendering of the building itself that looks more like a photograph than a computer image. When the building is complete, the user also has the option of walking inside the building to check out what the “other side” of the puzzle pieces would have looked like. This, too, is a fairly lifelike rendering of the inside of the Notre Dame Cathedral. The user also gets cut scenes that detail the historical significance of the construction of each segment of the cathedral.
There are many different strategies available to stay organized while attempting to assemble the puzzle. The user is given an option of several trays so that the pieces can be sorted according to color or style such as corner pieces, outside pieces or number of interlocking pegs. The difficulty level chosen by the user (a choice of three) determines how many pieces the puzzle has. The platinum level features about one thousand.
After the puzzle is completed, the user can play a miniature adventure game that involves exploring the interior of the cathedral. The amount of the cathedral that can be explored in the adventure game is also reliant upon the difficulty setting. There is much more to be done in the harder levels. The plot of the adventure portion is taken right from Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The plot of this adventure is very linear, and really is very challenging. The game is mostly like a bonus, with the main portion of the play being the assembly of the puzzle.
In short, Puzz 3-D Notre Dame Cathedral has a little something for any puzzler, if one is willing to count the weak adventure at the close of the game. The play is just as good as assembling a real puzzle. It is a great download. Look also to other games in this series. They are all wonderful to play.
