Triazzle is a variation of a classic puzzle board game based on a board featuring numerous triangular pieces. There are many variations and knock-offs for this particular game. This PC version was developed by Dan Gilbert at Berkeley Systems and released by Berkeley Systems in the middle nineties. It was developed especially for Windows 3.X.
Triazzle is in the top down perspective. The board is made up of a group of triangles, some inverted, and some base down. The user is given a series of triangular shaped tiles with pictures on them.
Each group of tiles has a theme. For example, most of the tiles feature different animals, such as frogs or insects from the Amazon Rain Forest of South America. Most of the tiles feature pictures that are very lifelike, making the game somewhat educational for identifying the various types of creatures.
On each straight face of the tile, only half of the creature or pattern is shown, and there is a different portion on each side. For example, on two sides of the triangular tile, there may be frog heads. On the third side, there will only be a frog’s back half. The user has to place the tiles on the board strategically so that each tile placed makes a chain of whole frogs. The user has to continue placing tiles, making sure that each placement results in a whole creature or pattern whenever two sides of the triangular tile are adjacent to one another.
As the game progresses, it will get more and more difficult. For example, instead of only having frog parts on a single tile, the tile may contain halves of two or even three animals, making it harder to place the triangular tile so it completes the pattern of every tile it is touching. The game features a very high replayability level, and a single puzzle can take anywhere from a couple of minutes to a frustrating several hours to complete. Since all of the tiles are exactly the same size and are fully interchangeable around the board, it is very difficult to correctly place all of the tiles on the board the first time around.
Triazzle is a very good and challenging classic puzzle game. This particular version is very colorful and fun with all of the different jungle animals that are pictured on the tiles. The game will surely keep any user going for hours as they try to solve each succession of puzzles, and possibly advance in difficulty level, as well. Good luck with this one. It is so simple that it’s hard. Don’t underestimate it.
