Game Review (written by Wolfyuk) Added on: 11/19/2007
Wetrix is a game a little bit like Tetris or Blockout. The object of the game is build 'lakes' that hold water that drops down from the sky. Different shaped blocks fall down from the top of the screen, and it's down to you to place them down effectively. You're only allowed to lose a limited amount of water, so you've got to keep your lakes maintained. Be careful though - building too low will mean that you'll lose water overflowing from your lakes, but if you build too high you'll be hit by earthquakes.
As you lose water, your drain level will fill up. When this drain meter is filled to the top, the game is over. Water can be lost if it drips over the edge of the game world, or if it manages to drip through the floor. Holes are most commonly caused by earthquakes or downer blocks placed by the player.
The levels usually start off by giving you some 'Upper' blocks which will help you build your lakes. Soon after, the water comes down. There are other blocks such as 'Downer' blocks which will break the walls down that support your lakes. Downer blocks can also make holes in your world, meaning water can run through the floor rather than just over the edges of the playing area. It's a very addictive game that gets harder as time goes by. You can get special bonus points by building deep lakes, or building wide-spread lakes. If your lake is wide-spread, you'll see a rainbow across the lake letting you know you've achieved that bonus. If your lake is deep, you'll get little ducks that float on top. Its little extras like this that makes Wetrix a very fun game to play.
It's an old game with an interesting twist to it, but it'll keep you hooked for hours. You'll probably spend about ten minutes getting used to the feel of the game, but after this phase has passed by you'll be ready to play it to its full potential. As time goes by, you'll begin to develop your own personal tactics and methods that will help you get a better high score. Bonus stages and challenged help give this simple game more life-span and the multiplayer option is also a blast. I highly recommend and well worth a look!
