Game Review (written by Bigbro2004) Added on: 02/13/2007
Wheel of Fortune was one of the first DOS games I have ever played. My family, like many others, loved the show. The game has a high amount of quality for its time. You have a good number of options on characters. Each character has their own visual personality.
This game was released in 1987, developed by Softie, Inc. and Published by ShareData, Inc. It was also made for Apple II, Commodore 64, Genesis and SNES. The game supports up to 3 players. You can also play against 2 computers, or you and a friend can play against one computer.
Just like the game show, you have categories for each puzzle, such as Phrase, Title, Person, and so on. After 3 rounds, you have a timed bonus round, roughly like the show. Where you try to figure out the puzzle. You have the most common letters used in puzzles given to you, like in the actual show, and then you get to choose 4 letters of which one and only one vowel letter.
Actual Gameplay:
After you choose your character and name it. You have your first puzzle.
When it is your turn you spin the wheel, and it lands on a value. If you get bankrupt you lose all of your money, and if you land on lose a turn, you lose your turn and it goes to the next character. If you land on a dollar amount, then you get to guess a letter. If the letter is not in the puzzle, then you lose your turn, but if it is, you get the money value you landed on times the number of the chosen letter that exists in the puzzle. You repeat this until you, a fellow player, or the computer solves the puzzle.
The person who solves the puzzle gets the total money value added to their "overall score". This money then can not be lost. It can be added to if you win solve more than one puzzle. The person who has the most money at the end of 3 rounds gets to play the bonus round.
There are also bonuses on the wheel from time to time too. One is so you won’t lose your turn. You can use it if you guessed a wrong letter, spun and landed on lose a turn or spun and landed on bankrupt.
This was a great game for family fun in the past, though now games like tetris on N64 are more likely to be used. This is a classic that will always be in our hearts.
