If all you like to do is level characters then this game is for you! Games released at this time tend to have easier game play and of course older graphics, but many of them are still extremely enjoyable as there is nothing that has really ever surpassed it. From Masters of Magic, to Lemmings, to the
Oregon Trail Download, many of the games offered allow the player to experience game play unmatched by future releases. That being said, the game does have enjoyable graphics, compared to other games, but if that is all you are looking for, go out and download or buy any of the dragon warrior or final fantasy games for a much more enjoyable experience.
The game begins in a post apocalyptic world, with the hero, Duke Gilead, desperately seeking to find the secret to averting his own mortality. From chatting with NPC’s, to movement, to choosing which method of attack to use during battles, the characteristics which make up this game are very similar to those found in any SNES game, with the same basic graphics, layout, music, and overall feel. The thing that sets this game apart from others, however, is the dialog system. When conversing with NPC’s you are given choices in your responses. Unlike many of the other games which have a completely linear method of game play, Abaddon allows a number of options for each action. This is an extremely enjoyable component of this game, because
it gives the game a lot of replay value, as each different choice can lead you in a completely different direction.
The reason you should skip this game, however, is because the character development is painstakingly slow. Especially in the beginning. Similar to most RPG’s, the game requires a lot of levelling. The basic premise is that you defeat monsters, and in exchange you are rewarded by advancing in levels and receiving gold and other items. This ultimately allows you the ability to face tougher monsters and harder battles. The problem here, is that there isn’t a proper progression of monsters. You’ll never know when you will take a wrong step into a battle you don’t stand a chance of winning. Even if you save frequently, which is a must if you decide to take on this endeavour, you will waste amazing amounts of time fighting the same monsters, just to be able to move onto the next section of the same monsters. The worst part is, once levelled properly, the game is exceedingly easy.
All this being said, if you are looking for a game to pass the time, enjoy levelling, and want to do so in a typical RPG setting, this is a download you should check out, as it is amusing and does have an interesting storyline.
