Bloodstone is an epic dwarven tale and is a pretty cool game for its time and I still enjoy playing it today. You start out as Danet Mclarg (unless you are the female version of him or change his name to you own.) He is a dwarf who’s father has just been slain by a raiding party of taldor (dwarves' arch-nemesises.). With his dying breath, his father gives him a magic axe, a spell totem (something to learn spells with) and the warriors to flee with.
Once you are in the outside world there is an entire continent to explore and several islands too. He is on his own and will have to prepare himself to take revenge for his father's death. It is a great and well-written role playing game with a good plot and a lot of cool items and interesting quests.
There are several different towns to visit to get information, supplies and equipment (like ropes for crossing mountains, snow shoes for crossing snow, etc.). Potential team mates can also be located and recruited to improve the power of the party. There is a variety of enemies and also people along the way that will join your team like amazons (female warriors), humans( stock standard guys that are
balanced and mediocre at all skills), tlengles (lizard type men), wizards (different from men they are magical humanoids) dwarves (small but strong guys, like yourself) and even taldors (mutant type heroes).
The goal of the game is to unite the dwarven people and conquer the taldor by first collecting seven magic items then getting the most powerful magic axe of all that was once owned by the first dwarf. Once you get the magic items you must choose one of two dwarven chieftains to align yourself with and give them the magic items.
I give this game 9 out of 10 because it has a good plot, the graphics aren’t too bad and it’s not too hard but not too easy either. The overall game play is pretty good with a variety of weapons ranging from the short sword to battle axe to heavy crossbow. There is also a large range of spells from offensive to defensive, from combat to non-combat (such as bargaining spells to help get things cheaper). There is also a huge range of skills to learn from sword play to magic, swimming to trading.
Overall this is a great game and I am glad I have got hold of it again.
