Game Review (written by Ginodawog) Added on: 10/21/2006
The first thing you will notice about Caste in the Winds is the extremely crummy graphics. However once you get into this RPG/Adventure game, you realize that the game-play of the game more than makes up for this fault. The story begins when you have discovered your grandparents’ burnt farm. From the hamlet, you engage on a journey to discover your true past. Rick Saada created the game and stated that much of the story is based on Norse mythology.
The game is played through a top-down view and there are numerous obstacles you have to pass to complete the game. There are plenty of items you can find on your travels, and there are quite a lot of spells that will help you in the game; whether to destroy the numerous enemies or to find secret doors and see items and enemies. The large range of enemies also means you will never get tired of this game.
Within the game, the help features are great. Different topics will let you look at the description of your enemies and the strength and defense of all your items. In addition, the description window will give you an overview of your movements and tells you whether you attack or attempt to disarm a trap has been successful or not
With this version, there are new features:
GAME DIFFICULTY: In the Character Creation dialog, you can now choose the game difficulty. Your choices are Easy, Intermediate, Difficult, and Experts Only. 1.0 is Intermediate on this scale. The harder the level is, there are more monsters and traps per level, fewer objects and less money per level. It also requires greater amount of experience to increase your level.
CHARACTER ATTRIBUTES DIALGOUE: This allows you to see your game difficulty, your stats, and the amount of money you own.
TEXT POP-UP’S: These pop-up’s will appear once you have found a note that either tells you about your past or reveals what may happen in the future.
By the games end, you will not be disappointed. However, there are only two parts of the three-part story available for download for free. The first is “A Question of Vengeance”, while the second is called “Lifthransir’s Bane”. Hopefully the third will be released in the future. A game for everyone to enjoy.

Rick saada (01/10/2008) Hey, if you've only got 16 colors to work with, doing good graphics is hard :) Besides, Castle ran on a 1 MEG 286, in the day when a 32K video card was top of the line, so what do you want. Anyway, have fun with the game.Davince21 (09/16/2007) The game was awesome.Seinfeld (12/14/2006) A creative and imaginative game. Graphics and sound effects are nice viewing and amusing. A game that everyone will enjoy.Lochmacher (04/07/2006) An addictive and simple RPG. It won't wow you, but it can entertain with it's simple controls, vast ammount of items to snag, and multiple levels. Further fun can be had by making one's own icons for characters, but it's serviceable as it stands. Runs in windows, has a sequel and makes a nice snack for when you need a quick break. |
