The world of Xanth is an expansive world of fantasy created by the mind of world renowned science fiction novelist Piers Anthony. It is so expansive that it could not be contained within its paperback confines. It now comes to you within a new genre in an immersive gaming world. The story of Xanth is a separate world of fantasy co-existing (supposedly) with the real world. Travelers have found their way to this parallel world of magic, where every creature has a special type of magic specifically dedicated to that being.
As the story unfolds you will learn more of the amazing magic, adventure, and puzzles that this game provides. The play of the game is about puzzles and adventuring.
In the retail version of this game, a companion paperback novel is provided that follows closely with the story of the game, giving you the chance to read the book and explore the world at the same time. It gives this game a very unique feel and you will be pleased to immerse yourself in the gaming fun. Speaking to all characters in the game, including creatures and magical entities, will help the story to unfold to you, the player, and you will be given tasks to complete. As with most puzzle type games,
you can expect that some items will be required or action will need to be performed that will progress the story along. So some gaming advice: Check all areas thoroughly; you never know when an item might be available. Speak to everyone, it might provide a clue to the next step. Most important, never give up, once you stop playing this game it might never see the light of day again, and the ending to this story is so rewarding. There is so much to remember that walking away for a few days/weeks out of frustration will likely cause a complete do-over, because you won't be able to recall all the clues you have gleaned or the uses for the objects you have found.
Companions of Xanth rivals most colorful adventure games of its era, especially games like the series "ZORK" and older "Myst" games but more closely resembles most of Legend's other games like the "Deathgate", "Shannarra", and a whole boat load of other book to PC conversion games. Its uniqueness is the companion novel, which I recommend you download or find elsewhere, because it really brings the game to a new light. Explaining how your character ends up in the world of Xanth in the first place and a few other spoilers are some of the many intriguing tales in the manual. So take a moment, make a decision and explore the magical world of Xanth. It will make you feel like a kid again.
