Game Review (written by Turkishhoneyrox) Added on: 12/23/2006
The Dark Ages was released in 1991. It is a shareware with three parts to it. I got this game when I was a kid of about five year old. It had a very gripping story line which left me wanting to get to the main enemy, Garth, because he killed your father. This is a very well set up platform game. You are a prince and your main objective is to get revenge for your father because Garth killed him.
The sounds are very good for when the game was made.
There are power-ups and many enemies on the long trip over waterfalls and through caves. Your weapon is a blue boomerang and you acquire more along the way. The colors in this game are amazing and they really make the game wonderful. They set the mood for the environment that your character is in. Dark Ages is a very interesting Platform game from Apogee and it has a very fast pace and is very challenging. As you move through the level there is enemy after enemy of intriguing art. The enemy has their own unique design that makes Dark Ages remembered. The enemies are anywhere from flying red birds to walking zombie like people. This rolling screen platform game will show you how games like Mario and Sonic got started. It is like the Hocus Pocus game from Apogee but only it is a bit more realistic. Dark Ages is great for all ages, adults will enjoy reliving the old styles of games, and kids will love the challenges that lay ahead in this game. The graphics are really basic but it is a very well put together game.
When I played this game as a kid it must've taken me around 10 - 15 hours to beat the whole game and the game left such a good impression on me. I will always remember this game. The game would probably be a bit shorter for the average gamer but it is definitely worth beating. Even though the graphics are that great, or the sound isn’t top of the line, nor is this the best Apogee game ever, it is definitely worth a shot. I found it interesting leaping around as a prince trying to fulfill my destiny and reclaim my rightful heritage. It is basically the basis for games like Prince of Persia and Sands of Time. It is actually very freakishly like Prince of Persia, except there is a little less desert and sand in this game. Go prince, fulfill your destiny and get revenge for your father.
