Game Review (written by Allstar8) Added on: 01/24/2007
I first got introduced to the great game of Darklands when I was young. I was first becoming introduced to computers at the time, and Darklands was the first game I have ever played on the computer. It took me a little time to get used to the game and how it was played. This was because this game was my introduction to the RPG type of games. Once I got used to the RPG style of play, I was hooked on the game.
There were times where I would stay up all night getting further and further into the game, and getting more and more hooked each time. The game has great game play, and decent graphics for being the first game I have ever played on the computer.
The game play is great, and there are many twists and turns that you can choose from that can change the overall outcome of the game. The game has an enormous map, each with its unique characteristics and advantages. The game play and amazing and cannot possibly be conquered in a few days like many new-age RPG's have started to become. There is also a great variety of weapons and items to choose from, each of which

having different effects and different abilities, which adds to the variety of the game.
As a young boy, I have played this game for weeks at a time, and have yet to discover all of the quests available, and I have yet to reach an ending. This shows the variety and the quality the game actually exhibits to the players. The ability to create your characters is a great feature exhibited by this game, and is now lost in the recent world of RPG's. You have the ability to choose the name, gender, background, heritage and much more for your travelers. Each different combination of the choices results in different skills and abilities for your warriors.
Darklands is a classic RPG that was introduced to me when I was a young child. I got hooked and really got into the game, however; I was never able to actually complete the game and officially reach the ending. I think everyone should download this amazing classic. One the best RPG's I have played, and one of my favorite games as a child. I also introduced this game to my father and got him hooked, now download this game and get hooked on an amazing game yourself!

For a game that was released way back in 1992, it sure has great graphics way ahead of its time. I remember this was one of the first RPGs I ever played on a computer. It took me a while to get used to how the game worked, but I became quite good, though I never finished the game. I'm definitely downloading this!

Wow. When I first played this game, it was nebulous to me, as I was fairly young and not too keen on long RPGs. When I picked it back up, I discovered a treasure. Medieval Germany streched out before my band of middle-aged adventurers (yes, you can create your characters backgrounds, including castes and occupations in 5 year blocks, thus they age). With each town, village, and city having their own opinions of me, I set out to make a name for myself. In-town functions much the same as a web of options and inter-linked sections that you simply pick their names and where you'd like to go and then are afforded more options when you get there. Combat is real-time, but with the ability to pause to give orders and movement commands. With a combo of still VGA for the menu pics and fluid isometric for combat, it is a visual treat to this day (don't blame me if you disagree, but some of us love seeing what people can do with only 320x200 pixels). Highly recommended as one of the best RPGs of all time. Seriously, DL this right now and boot it up with DOSBox.
