Another difference is how you can not easily escape the monster because they have become more intelligent. They can now follow you up and down the stairs. With the old version you could attack them then run up or down a flight of stairs to avoid them.
Because of these differences the Java version is a lot more challenging than the old version and makes it perfect for experienced gamers. The game requires careful thought and play so that you can advance well into the game. It really is a great role playing game considering that it was based in a game that was released in the 80s.
