Fountain of Dreams is a post apocalyptic role playing game that is a direct but unofficial sequel to the Interplay video game Wasteland. Fountain of Dreams was released in the middle nineties by Electronic Arts and actually features a modified engine from Wasteland. While Fountain of Dreams may not be quite as glorified and popular as its predecessor, it is a very unique play that features an awesome and realistically frightening story line.
The user in Fountain of Dreams resides in the American state of Florida.
However, Florida is not as one usually pictures it. Following a war and many nuclear bombings, the landscape has been altered and the Florida peninsula has broken away from the mainland and is drifting on its own in the Atlantic Ocean. Away from the rest of the modern world, a new regime of chaos and violence has erupted on the island, led by several militant factions that gain power from radiation. The only person alive who knew how to stop the mutations and cut the supply of radiation to the leaders has been murdered by one of the terrorist regimes. The Killer Clowns are a mutated band of circus performers stranded on the island, and they are challenged by the wealthy and powerful

mob-style DeSoto family, as well as the Obeah Order and the Bahia Mafia. In order to combat these powerful, but warring and violent groups, the user will have to navigate a group of mercenaries through the Florida wasteland in search of the Fountain of Dreams. This fabled water source allegedly has the power to negate the effects of radiation, and possibly restore Florida to its former peace.
The game plays as a standard role playing game with the user and his party accomplishing tasks and winning battles in order to gain in experience and advance in skills and power. The main quest is to find the Fountain of Dreams, but there are many other side adventures that will help the user to advance in skills. There are tons of non playing characters throughout the game that will provide a variety of details, ranging from trading to providing hints and information. There are also numerous different explorable areas and landscapes, as well as a distinct difference in night and day, which will garner different enemies, as well as friends.
Overall, Fountain of Dreams is a worthwhile download and should make for an interesting play. It provides a scary glimpse into a possible future, as well as some exciting game play.
