This game is a mixture of everything fun and exciting - action, RPG, sports. You can do anything from playing archery to eavesdropping in pubs to riding your horse from one location to the other (while watching out for stray arrows or kamikaze birds).
I first played this game as a 9yo, and found it very addictive, although the older computers sometimes seem to have trouble when you enter a building. This game definitely has something for everyone - the would-be thieves who enjoy picking a lock (very good interface for this section of the game), the vivid horse riders who love to gallop a slow but faithful horse along never ending tracks, the adventurers who constantly like to explore hidden paths and secret areas, as well as the inside of people’s houses (on the sly).
The mix of being a small-time RPG and also including action sports such as the arena duels and the archery – one of the best areas of which is shooting the cat – makes this game appealing to players of various interests.
Pick who you want to be – human, elf or a half-ling etc - then pick what you want to be – thief, sage etc – and have a LOT of fun playing…depending on who you are, you can get into different guilds and can do different things. I found it interesting to rotate what you are, be a thief one day and spend your time picking locks, then try being a sage the next. Exploring inside people’s houses is always
fun too – being chased by a bunch of irate residents and raiding their treasure chests for coins – or a booby trap – seems to get the adrenaline running hot, even when you have a lot of trouble picking the lock! I always seem to break my lock picking tools, and have to keep going back to the thieves’ guild to get them repaired/replaced!
Another thing that makes Hillsfar so good is the strangers who walk up to you on the streets and offer you something – be it gold or a sudden trip to the arena! This game also has all the bartering you find in a good RPG, where you can buy goods for high prices, or trade your poor old horse for one with a better name – I doubt they’re better horses! So, jump on your grey and go for a gallop – mind the birds – and see if you can’t hit that cat playing archery!
